Zip Tools are programs that can help you manage all the stuff you use and create with your Zip drive. There is a Zip Tools package for Macintosh and one for Windows. This help file provides information on Zip Tools for Macintosh. For information on Zip Tools for Windows, refer to the Zip Tools Help which is installed in the Iomega Zip Tools Windows group on PCs.
The current* Zip Tools package for Macintosh includes:
• Zip Tour – A multimedia program that familiarizes the new Zip user with the features and uses of Zip drives and Zip Tools software.
• Iomega Driver – A system extension which allows your Macintosh to talk to the Zip drive.
• Iomega Tools – A collection of utilities for Zip drives and disks, including format, write protection (with or without password), and read/write disk protection (password required).
• Iomega Guest – A utility that allows you to use a Zip drive temporarily on a Mac without having to install the Iomega Driver in the System folder.
• Personal Backup™ – A background backup and disk synchronization utility. You can set Personal Backup to backup automatically at shutdown or any other convenient time, or you can use a command or hot key to launch a backup whenever you wish. Provided by Highware, Inc.
• VirtualDisk™ Starter – A starter version of the cataloging utility used to track applications and files on multiple removable disks. Provided by Continuum Software, Inc.
• DiskDup Pro™ – A starter version of the single drive disk duplication utility which can be used to copy your Zip disks. Provided by Continuum Software, Inc.
• EasyLabels™ Starter – A starter version of the utility that allows you to create and print labels for organizing and identifying all your Zip disks and other removable disks. Provided by Continuum Software, Inc.
• Pathways into Darkness Demo – The first four levels of the 3-D real-time action game which received the 1993 MacWorld Game Hall of Fame award. Provided by Bungie Software Products Corporation.
• Marathon Demo – Three single-play levels and one network-play level of the futuristic multiplayer follow-up to Pathways into Darkness. The demo supports two players for network play; the full game supports eight players for network play. Provided by Bungie Software Products Corporation.
When you install the Zip software package, you can select to install any of the Zip Tools to your hard drive (or any other disk you select). After installation is complete, you will find an icon or alias for each of the installed Tools in the Iomega Zip Tools folder on the disk you selected for installation. The Manuals and Help folder inside the Iomega Zip Tools folder contains the electronic documentation available for the Tools you have selected to install.

Zip Tour provides new Zip users with a multimedia introduction to the Zip drive's special features and to Zip Tools software.
To run Zip Tour, insert your Zip Tools disk and double click on the Zip Tour icon, either on the Tools disk, or in the Iomega Zip Tools folder on your hard disk if you selected to install Zip Tour.
The Iomega Driver installs in the System Extensions folder on the disk you select for installation (usually the Mac's hard disk). Then each time you start or restart the Macintosh, the Iomega Driver loads to provide access to your Zip drive. If the Iomega Driver is not installed, you can use the Iomega Guest program to provide access to the Zip drive.
Iomega Guest is a temporary driver program that lets you use your Zip drive on a Macintosh without having to complete a full installation of the driver. For instructions on loading the Guest driver, refer to Guest Help on the Zip Install disk.
Iomega Tools is a package of useful utilities for Zip drives and disks. Erase Disk allows you to erase a Zip disk, with or without surface verify. Disk Protect enables software protection for a Zip disk – options include write protection with or without a password or read/write protection with a password. Eject automatically ejects a Zip disk.
To start Iomega Tools, double click on the Iomega Tools icon in the Iomega Zip Tools folder on the disk you selected for installation. If you have not installed Iomega Tools, you will find the Iomega Tools icon in the Iomega folder on the 100MB Zip Tools disk.

Personal Backup is a Control Panel which lets you quickly and easily back up your data, even while other programs are running on your Macintosh. All backup copies are in Finder format, so they can be accessed just like the original files.
You can use Personal Backup to:
• Back up selected folders to or from your hard disk, Zip disks, or other removable storage disks on your system.
• Synchronize data on two different disks so that both will contain the most recent versions of selected folders.
• Record everything you type over a 24 hour period. If a system error destroys your open files, you can use the backup text file of recorded keystrokes to recover lost data.
After Personal Backup is installed, you will see the following icon on the right hand side of your Desktop menu bar:
 
To start using Personal Backup to back up your data, click on the icon and select Personal Backup from the menu. When the Personal Backup control panel opens, click on the New button and complete the Configuration dialog box. You can set up the backup to happen automatically at shutdown or any other convenient time, or you can define a keyboard shortcut to launch the backup on demand. If you need help completing the Configuration dialog box, click on the Help button.
Your Zip Tools package includes a complete electronic manual for Personal Backup, which is located under Manuals and Help in the Iomega Zip Tools folder. Refer to the Personal Backup Manual for information on additional features and options, as well as for detailed troubleshooting. NOTE: Personal Backup will not load unless the Zip drive is connected and receiving power when the Macintosh starts.
VirtualDisk is an automatic, removable media cataloging program. VirtualDisk installs as a Control Panel and runs in the background, automatically cataloging all Zip disks, Bernoulli‚Ñ¢ disks, floppies, and other removable media (Floptical‚Ñ¢, MOs, CDs) as they are ejected. VirtualDisk displays cataloged entries on the Finder's desktop as the VirtualDisk volume icon. You can view, open and work with cataloged entries using the convenient, familiar Finder commands, and you can use the Finder's Find command to quickly locate any cataloged file.
The starter version of VirtualDisk included in Zip Tools has a 1.5MB limit on the catalog size. (1.5MB will catalog a lot of disks!) For information on upgrading to the full version, as well as for complete information on using VirtualDisk, refer to the electronic VirtualDisk Manual located in the Manuals and Help folder inside the Iomega Zip Tools folder. EasyLabels allows you to quickly create easy-to-read labels that include the disk name and contents. You can print labels in a variety styles that work with standard label sizes.
To use EasyLabels, double click on the EasyLabels icon in your Iomega Zip Tools folder, select the label style you wish to use, and insert the disk you want to label. EasyLabels will automatically fill in the label with the disk's name and contents, and then eject the disk.

NOTE: The VirtualDisk upgrade package includes a full version of EasyLabels which allows you to create custom label styles.
DiskDup Pro is a system utility that allows you to quickly and easily make one or more copies of a Zip disk. You can use DiskDup Pro to make a backup copy that is as accessible as the original, or to make multiple copies of a Zip disk you need to distribute (for example to clients or co-workers).
To use DiskDup Pro, open the Iomega Zip Tools folder and double click on the DiskDup Pro icon. First set the copy count to the desired number of copies, then insert the disk you want to copy. DiskDup Pro will inform you when to insert a blank disk for the copy.

To play a game demo, insert your Zip Tools disk and double click on either the Pathways into Darkness icon or the Marathon icon in the Iomega Zip Tools folder. Use Preferences to choose the difficulty level you wish to play. Click on Setup Keys in the Preferences dialog box to configure and learn the key settings. For more information about the demos, or for information on ordering the complete games, check the Readme files located in the Pathways into Darkness and Marathon folders on the Zip Tools disk.
